Flowers for Your Girlfriend: What to Send at Every Stage

Flowers for your girlfriend, matched to the stage you are at: early weeks, settled, birthdays, living together and hard weeks, with a Bangkok sending calendar.

Most advice on flowers for your girlfriend starts with the occasion: Valentine's Day, an anniversary, her birthday. That is the wrong first question. A bouquet that lands well in week six lands badly in year four, and the reverse is also true. This guide sorts what to send by the stage of the relationship, then adds the Bangkok details that decide whether the flowers arrive looking the way you intended.

It covers the first three months, the settled stretch, her birthday, living together and the difficult weeks, then decodes rose counts and colours and ends with a year-long sending calendar with live rose prices. The title says girlfriend because that is the phrase people search; the advice holds for anyone in Bangkok sending to a partner of any gender.

Flowers for your girlfriend: the stage matters more than the occasion

An occasion tells you the date. A stage tells you what the flowers are allowed to say. In the first weeks, flowers say "I enjoy you". After a year they say "I know you". During a bad month they say "I am here and I want nothing back". The same twenty red roses cannot do all three jobs.

That is why the usual Valentine's logic breaks down. A huge red bouquet in week five announces a level of seriousness that neither of you has discussed. Five small stems in year four on her birthday under-read the day. Matching the gesture to the stage is most of the skill.

Three questions to place yourself

  • Have you said "I love you" or agreed to be exclusive? If the answer to either is no, you are in the early stage, whatever the calendar says. (The bouquet that goes with saying it is its own subject: see flowers to say I love you.)
  • Do you know her favourite flower without guessing? If you do not, you are still learning, and the next order is partly research.
  • Is something hard happening in her life this month? If so, the stage is secondary and the difficult-weeks advice below takes over.

The stage table

Stage What to send Size and tone Where it goes Card, in one line
First three months Five or ten pink or white-pink roses Small, soft, midweek Wherever she has told you A specific memory from the week
Settled A mixed bunch built around her favourite Medium, her taste not yours Home, usually A private joke or a thank you
Her birthday A bouquet plus one thing to open Medium to large Home or the venue, agreed in advance What you noticed about her this year
Living together A vase for the table, or a plant Medium, lasts a week or more The shared home Almost nothing
Difficult weeks Small, quiet, no big red Five stems or a plant Home, never the office "No need to reply"

The first three months: light, frequent, never red-heavy

In the early weeks you are still learning each other, and flowers are part of how you learn. Keep them light. Five or ten stems, pink or white-pink, sent on an ordinary Wednesday, tell her that she crossed your mind on a day with no reason attached. That is the logic of just because flowers, and if you are still at the first-date stage, flowers after a first date covers the first gesture.

The trade body Society of American Florists reports in its consumer gift-giving tips that most people name "just because" as the best reason to receive flowers, that unexpected gifts have the biggest impact, and that midweek delivery is worth considering. It is trade-association research, so treat it as a pointer rather than proof. The practical version: a Wednesday bunch stands out because on Saturday everyone is sending something.

For a first-quarter bouquet, 5 pink roses are ฿1,999 delivered, and 10 white-pink roses are ฿2,399. Either fits in a standard condo vase, neither needs explaining, and neither reads as a proposal.

Why not red yet

Red is the colour of a stated intention. The Royal Horticultural Society notes in its history of the language of flowers that a red rose meant love to the Victorian couples who sent coded bouquets. A big red bouquet makes a claim, and in the first three months you may not have made the claim out loud.

Pink and white-pink are friendlier. Our piece on red versus pink roses treats colour as a design choice rather than a rule, and soft colours leave her room to respond in her own time.

The address question

You may well know where she lives, but knowing is different from her expecting a delivery there. The warmest approach is also the simplest: text "Can I send you something this week? Home or work?" and let her pick.

If she says work, think about the building. A reception desk in an office tower on Sathorn or Silom is easier than a shared floor of colleagues, where a private gesture becomes a spectator sport. For condos, our guide to sending flowers to a Bangkok condo explains how juristic offices and parcel rooms handle deliveries. The rule behind both, send only where she has said yes, is set out in flower giving etiquette in Thailand.

A worked example

Say you have been together seven weeks. She mentioned on Sunday that her week was packed with a launch at work in Ari. You text on Monday night to ask whether she would like something at her condo on Wednesday; she says yes. You order 10 white-pink roses for ฿2,399. The card reads: "For the week of the launch. Eat something that is not a coffee."

Settled: learning her actual favourite flower

After the early months you move from guessing to knowing. This is where most people stall: roses become the default and nobody checks whether she likes them. The best flowers for your girlfriend are the ones she would choose herself, and the work is learning what those are.

Research on gift-giving points the same way. A summary at the British Psychological Society reports Gino and Flynn's studies, in which recipients appreciated gifts they had asked for more than surprise gifts, and givers did not see that coming. The Stanford Graduate School of Business write-up describes the same experiments. For flowers, confident guessing is not the same as listening.

Four low-key ways to find out

  1. Look at what she photographs. Scroll back through the pictures she has taken of flowers at cafés, markets or friends' homes. Patterns show up quickly: all pale, all dark, all wild.
  2. Notice what she touches. If she stops at the hydrangeas in a supermarket and ignores the roses, that is data.
  3. Ask sideways. "If you could have flowers on your desk all week, what would you pick?" is a better question than "what flowers do you like?" because it asks her to imagine rather than recite.
  4. Run a test. Send a mixed small bunch and see which stems she mentions. It costs little and she will tell you what stood out.

Matching what you learn to what to send

What you notice What to try Why
She loves soft, full, romantic flowers Pink peonies The classic soft bloom; see the page for current availability
She likes clean, structured, modern Orchids or white-pink roses Orchids hold their shape for a long time
She picks cheerful, sunny colours Sunflowers or gerbera Bright and low-fuss; nothing precious
She likes dried or preserved things at home Preserved roses Nothing to water, nothing to throw away
You still cannot tell A mixed bunch from the build-your-own tool You choose the balance and learn from her reaction

Her birthday: bouquet plus something to open

Birthdays are the one day where flowers alone can feel thin. A bouquet with a small thing to unwrap gives her something to open while she smiles at you. Our birthday flowers for her page collects current options; the logic is simple. If you are also hosting a dinner, birthday party flowers in Bangkok covers the table and the photo corner as a separate order.

  • If she wears jewellery daily: a flowers and jewellery box pairs the bouquet with something that lasts beyond the week.
  • If she is run-down or overdue a break: spa gift sets with flowers give her an excuse to switch off.
  • If she loves a table full of people: cake and flowers turns the delivery into a small party in the living room.
  • If you want the bouquet to do the work: 20 pink roses are ฿3,299 and stand on their own.

Timing a birthday in Bangkok

For bouquets up to 40 roses we deliver the same day if you order by 9 pm Bangkok time; for 50 roses the cut-off is 7 pm. Our delivery page has the full list. A birthday is not the day to run close to a cut-off, so order the evening before and tell us which part of the day suits her plans. No exact clock time is promised on any order, so leave room on either side.

If she is celebrating at a restaurant or a rooftop bar in Thonglor or Ekkamai, do not assume the venue will keep a bouquet cool for six hours. Call and ask: some will hold flowers at the host stand for the last hour before you arrive, some will not, and Bangkok heat is hard on cut stems. If the venue says no, send the flowers to her home for the afternoon and bring the second gift to dinner.

A worked example

Say her birthday falls on a Thursday. You have a table booked in Ari at 8 pm. You order on Tuesday night: 20 pink roses at ฿3,299, plus a boxed gift from the jewellery range. You ask her on Monday whether she will be home on Thursday morning; she says she is working from her condo until noon. The flowers arrive in the late morning, and she has the afternoon to enjoy them before you meet.

The card reads: "Twenty roses, one for each thing I noticed this year. The list is at dinner." Then at dinner, have the list.

Living together: flowers for the home, not the feed

Once you share a home, flowers stop being a delivery and become part of the room. The question changes from "what will she photograph?" to "what will she live with for the next week?"

  • Scale. A dining table fits a low, round bunch. A tall bouquet of long stems blocks conversation.
  • Scent. Strong fragrance tires a small condo quickly; if either of you is sensitive to it, choose a lightly scented bunch.

Allergies and animals

The NHS lists "do not keep fresh flowers in the house" among its self-care advice for hay fever. If your partner has hay fever or asthma, ask them. A plant or preserved box sidesteps the question, and a doctor is the right person to ask about anything more serious.

If you share a home with a pet, tulips are listed as toxic to dogs and cats on the ASPCA's tulip page, while the same organisation lists roses as non-toxic to dogs, cats and horses. For a mixed household, roses are the safer pick. That is guidance on plant lists, not veterinary advice; ask a vet if an animal has chewed something.

Make them last, because you are the one looking at them

At home, you control the vase. The Royal Horticultural Society advises on conditioning cut flowers: strip leaves below the waterline so they do not rot, and re-cut stems before arranging. A Purdue floral-design instructor quoted by Purdue Agriculture says roses stay fresh five to seven days and recommends topping up water daily. Our guide to making roses last in Bangkok heat adds the air-conditioning and balcony details.

If a vase feels like too much upkeep, consider a flowering plant. The RHS describes moth orchids as long-lasting indoor flowers that want bright light but not direct summer sun and temperatures kept above 16 degrees Celsius. A shaded window is fine; a sunny balcony is not. Our plants range includes phalaenopsis.

The difficult weeks: flowers that say I am here

Some weeks are hard for reasons that have nothing to do with you: exams, a family illness, a lost job, a bereavement. Flowers in these weeks should ask for nothing.

  1. Small and quiet. Five stems or a small plant. A large red bouquet looks like a performance.
  2. Home, not office. She may not want to explain a delivery to her team on a day she is barely holding together.
  3. A card that closes the loop. "No need to reply" is a kindness. It removes the small burden of thanks.
  4. No fixing language. Do not write "everything will be fine". Write something true: "I am around this week. Say the word and I will bring dinner."

What the research does and does not say

A 2025 experiment in Frontiers in Psychology with 158 participants found that viewing pictures of flowers lowered scores on mood scales for nervousness, anger, fatigue, depression and panic, with colour mattering more than petal type. It tested pictures, not bouquets, and measured mood scales, not treatment; flowers are not a treatment for anxiety or depression, so do not send them as one.

The Gottman Institute's longitudinal work, summarised on its blog, found that stable, happy couples had at least five positive interactions for every negative one during conflict. Flowers can be one of those moments, but only one. The NHS's healthy-relationships guidance lists respect, support and honest conversation, and advises active listening. Cooking dinner and listening count for more than anything we sell.

If the difficult week is an argument

Flowers after an argument only work if the conversation has happened; otherwise they read as a way to skip it. Apologise first, then underline it. Our I'm sorry flowers page covers what to send once the apology is made; for the longer version, with card wording and when to skip flowers altogether, read apology flowers: what to send.

If you are in different cities, the stage rules still hold but the logistics change; long distance relationship flowers covers time zones, cut-offs and ordering from abroad. If the hard week involves a hospital, ward rules vary; our piece on sending flowers to a Bangkok hospital explains how to check before you send.

Card lines for the hard weeks

  • "No reply needed. Thinking of you."
  • "I am around all weekend. Text me what you need."
  • "Not a solution, just something green in the room."
  • "I will bring dinner on Thursday unless you tell me no."

Rose counts and colours, decoded for partners

Roses are the default because they are quick to order, but number and colour change what they say. This is our editorial view, not a fixed code; the card is the better check.

Count What it tends to say When it fits
5 A light note Early weeks, midweek, just because
10 Warm and simple Settled, after a good weekend
20 A clear gesture Birthdays, milestones
30 An occasion Anniversaries, a big week
50 A statement A significant anniversary or a reconciliation after a long wait

Our guide to how many roses to send goes deeper; more stems rarely help until you have a reason for them.

Colour, in plain terms

The Royal Horticultural Society's list of traditional flower meanings gives red as eternal love, pink as admiration, joy and gratitude, white as truth and innocence, and orange as energy. That is a Western garden tradition, not a Thai code.

For romantic flowers for her in Bangkok, the working rules are shorter:

  • Red is declared romance. 30 red roses at ฿3,999 suit an anniversary or a milestone; 50 red roses at ฿5,999 are for the days that call for a statement. For 50 stems, order by 7 pm for same-day.
  • Pink is warm and low-pressure. It works from week one to year ten.
  • White-pink is the all-rounder: romantic without the weight of red.
  • Orange is playful and bright. It suits a partner who laughs a lot and dislikes solemn gestures.

None of this replaces the card. A pink bunch with a loving line beats a red bunch with "happy birthday".

A year of flowers: a sending calendar with price tokens

A sending calendar turns an intention into a habit; it does not mean flowers every month. If you would rather not plan at all, the flower subscription page sets out a standing order, which suits a partner who has said she wants flowers at home regularly.

When What Notes
January 5 pink roses at ฿1,999, midweek A start-of-year note for no reason
February 20 pink roses at ฿3,299 or 30 red roses at ฿3,999 See our Valentine's Day guide; order ahead
April A small bunch before Songkran Heat is at its peak; see the Songkran delivery guide
Her birthday A bouquet plus one gift See the birthday section above
Your anniversary 30 red roses or a Signature design See anniversary flowers by year
Rainy season 10 white-pink roses at ฿2,399 A grey-day Wednesday
December A table bouquet for the holidays Order early

Two points. The February row should not be your only entry, because it competes with everyone else's. A dated Kasikorn Research Centre survey of 400 Bangkok residents aged 15 to 39 reported by the Bangkok Post found about 52 percent planning to buy flowers for Valentine's, so the week is crowded. And a smaller bunch on an unmarked Wednesday often lands harder than the grand one on 14 February.

Where the Signature range fits

If you want something more designed than roses, The Blush Hour is a good weekday option. It is built from blush lisianthus, cream spray roses and wax flower, and it is soft in colour without being sweet.

When not to send flowers

Skip flowers if she has said she does not like cut flowers; take that at face value and look at a plant, a dried bunch or a different gift. Skip them as a substitute for a conversation she is waiting for, or when money is a source of stress between you. The Utah State University extension's guide to boundaries makes the general point that boundaries are personal limits that differ for everyone and can change over time. That applies to gifts too.

If her answer to a gesture is "thanks" with no warmth, do not escalate with a bigger one. Acknowledge it and ask what she would prefer.

Gratitude matters more than the flowers

Greater Good reports research by Algoe and colleagues in which grateful couples were more satisfied and closer, and a separate study by the article's author in which gratitude toward a partner predicted who was still together nine months later. Harvard Health reports that expressing appreciation to a partner raises satisfaction and responsiveness. The card matters more than the bouquet: a specific thank you does more than extra stems.

Frequently asked questions

What flowers do girlfriends like?

There is no universal answer, and anyone who gives you one is guessing. Roses are the common starting point because they are clear and easy. Beyond that, her taste decides: soft and full suits peonies or hydrangea, structured suits orchids, cheerful suits sunflowers. Look at what she photographs or buys for herself, then adjust.

How often should I send flowers to my girlfriend?

Often enough to be noticed and rarely enough to stay special. For most couples, three to six sends a year works: her birthday, an anniversary, Valentine's Day if you celebrate it, and one or two for no reason. If she likes frequent small gestures, a quiet monthly bunch is fine. Follow her reactions, not a rule.

What are the best flowers for a girlfriend's birthday?

A bouquet plus something to open is hard to beat. 20 pink roses are a clear gesture; add jewellery, a spa set or a cake from the birthday for her page. Order the evening before and agree a delivery window with her, since the day itself is not the time to run into a cut-off.

Is it too early to send flowers to a girlfriend of a few weeks?

Not if you keep it small. Five or ten pink or white-pink roses, sent midweek with a specific card, read as warm rather than heavy. Avoid large red bouquets until you have said you are serious. Ask her where she would like them delivered before you order.

Is it still romantic to send flowers once you live together?

Yes, though the delivery matters less. Once you share a home, flowers are for the table you both look at, so a bunch bought on the walk back from the BTS counts as much as a courier. Choose something that lasts a week, or a plant, and keep the card short: at this stage a line on a sticky note by the vase is enough, as long as it is specific.

What if she says she does not like cut flowers?

Believe her. Offer something that fits her taste instead: a flowering plant, a preserved rose box, a dried bunch, or a gift with a small set of flowers she can ignore if she wants. The point is that you listened. If you are unsure, ask FlowerRova by chat on LINE or WhatsApp and we will suggest options.
