Sending Flowers to a Bangkok Hospital: What Wards Actually Allow
Check the specific ward before ordering flowers. A practical guide to permission, delivery details, scent preferences and alternatives.

Ask the patient's ward whether flowers are allowed before placing an order. Hospital policies can differ between wards and can change with the patient's circumstances. No bouquet is universally accepted, and removing scent or pollen does not override an infection-control rule.
Why ward permission comes first
The CDC recommends excluding fresh and dried flowers and potted plants from care areas for immunosuppressed patients. This is infection-control guidance, not a list of current rules at Bangkok hospitals. The treating hospital decides what may enter its wards. CDC environmental infection-control recommendations.
Do not assume a general reception's willingness to take a parcel means a ward will accept the contents. Ask the ward or an authorised family contact to confirm specifically that flowers are allowed.
Questions to ask
- Are fresh flowers permitted for this patient and ward today?
- Are there restrictions on scent, materials, containers or size?
- Where may the delivery be received, and during which hours?
- Can a family member accept it if it cannot be brought to the room?
- Is discharge or a ward transfer expected before the proposed delivery?
Give the florist only the patient and delivery details needed. There is no need to disclose a diagnosis to order a bouquet.
If flowers are permitted
Ask the recipient or family about preferences and sensitivities. Avoid describing a design as “allergy-safe” or “unscented” without confirming its actual flowers. A rose bouquet can still be unsuitable for a particular person or ward.
Keep the dimensions manageable and ask whether a stable container is needed. Confirm who will look after the water and where the arrangement can sit without obstructing care or access. A modest gift is easier to place when space is limited.
Delivery details
Provide the patient's full name, the permitted receiving point and a contact who can coordinate acceptance. Include room or ward information only as authorised. Do not expect hospital staff to disclose a patient's location to a courier or seller.
Agree what should happen if the ward declines the delivery or the patient has moved. A change to a home address needs confirmation from the recipient and florist.
When to choose something else
If flowers are not permitted, ask the patient or family what would be welcome. Food and fruit are not automatically suitable alternatives: dietary and ward restrictions may apply. A message, a card or a gift delivered home later may be easier, but check the recipient's wishes rather than assuming.
For FlowerRova, send the permitted delivery details after ward approval and check delivery conditions. We cannot guarantee admission to a ward or substitute editorial advice for the hospital's decision.
