Sending Flowers to a Bangkok Condo: How It Actually Works

Most flower deliveries in Bangkok do not reach a front door. They reach a desk in a lobby, and what happens next depends on a building you have never been inside.

This is the single largest cause of failed deliveries in the city, and it is almost entirely predictable.

What actually happens

The courier arrives at your recipient's condominium. Security stops them at the lobby — standard in most buildings, and stricter in the newer ones. The bouquet goes to the juristic office (นิติบุคคล) or the front desk, and the recipient is notified by whatever system that building uses: a phone call, a LINE message, a note in a mailbox, or occasionally nothing at all.

Good buildings do this well. Others place the bouquet behind a counter under an air conditioning vent and forget about it until the resident happens to walk past.

How we handle it

Our default is to hand the bouquet to reception, photograph it there, and send you that photo. You then know it arrived, when, and who took it. If the recipient tells you they never received anything, you have a timestamped picture of a specific person holding it at a specific desk.

If you want it taken to the door instead, say so when you order. We will try, and in maybe half of Bangkok buildings it works. In the rest, the building will not permit it, and we would rather tell you that in advance than have you discover it afterwards.

What you can do to make it work

Give us a phone number for the recipient. This is the single most useful thing. If reception is difficult, the courier calls them directly and the problem solves itself in ninety seconds.

Tell us the building name, not just the address. Bangkok addresses are ambiguous; building names are not. "Noble Ploenchit" gets there faster than a soi number.

Avoid weekday 12–1 pm. Juristic offices in many buildings close for lunch, and a courier arriving then waits or leaves.

Consider their office instead. If they work in an office with a proper reception, that is frequently a more reliable destination than home — and the flowers are seen by more people, which for a birthday is usually the point.

Surprise deliveries and the notification problem

If you are surprising someone, there is a tension: you want them not to know, but you need them to be told there is a parcel. Buildings that message residents automatically will spoil it slightly. Buildings that do not may leave your bouquet on a counter overnight.

Our advice, unromantically: let them be notified. A bouquet that arrives and is collected within the hour beats a perfect surprise that wilts behind a desk until Tuesday.

Hotels and serviced apartments

Easier. Hotel front desks handle deliveries constantly and will normally take flowers to the room. Give us the guest's name and the room number if you have it. If you do not have the room number, the name plus the check-in date is usually enough.
