Proposal Flowers in Bangkok: Bouquet, Room, Timing and Backup Plan

Proposal flowers in Bangkok, planned properly: how many roses for 50, 100 or 200, the notice each needs, hotel and condo access, and a backup plan.

Proposal flowers are the one order where the flowers must be in the right place, at the right moment, without the person they are for suspecting anything. The bouquet is the easy part. The hard parts are the notice a large rose count needs, whether the hotel will let a courier past the lobby, who is holding the ring, and what you do if it rains on the rooftop. This guide is the logistics, from the date you have in mind backwards.

If you want to talk it through while you read, you can order by chat on LINE or WhatsApp at any hour.

Proposal flowers: the bouquet, the room and the photo

Flowers do three jobs at a proposal.

The first is the moment itself. Your partner sees the flowers, understands what is happening, and answers. For that you want one bouquet they can take in both arms, pass to a friend for the photo and carry out of the room, not a hundred loose stems on the floor.

The second is the room. At a hotel, a rooftop or your own condo, the flowers set the scene before either of you speaks. This is where candles, petals and a second arrangement come in, and where venue rules start to matter.

The third is the photo, which will sit on a wall or a feed for years. FlowerRova's signature look is a hand-tied bouquet in a matte black wrap with black mesh, which reads clearly against light clothes. The more useful photo advice is simpler: decide in advance who holds the phone.

Ask a friend, not her

A British Psychological Society digest of Gino and Flynn's gift research reports that recipients tend to appreciate gifts they asked for more than surprises, while givers do not expect that. A proposal is a surprise by nature, so you cannot ask her outright. You can ask her closest friend or sister: private or public, flowers she holds or a room full of them, family there or not.

How many roses for a proposal: 50, 100, 200 and what each needs

There is no correct number of flowers for a proposal, only the one that fits your budget, your venue and the notice you have given yourself. (For the general question of how much to spend on flowers, that guide has a method; this one assumes you have already decided the moment deserves a statement.) The lead times below are FlowerRova's own; other florists set theirs differently.

Roses Typical use Notice needed Where it works
50 red roses Private proposal, dinner, condo Same day if ordered by 7 pm Bangkok time Table, sofa, hotel room, small rooftop
100 red roses The classic 100 roses proposal 24 hours Hotel suite, private dining room
200 red roses Statement proposal, staged reveal 48 hours Suite with floor space, function room, garden
500 red roses Event scale, installation 48 to 72 hours A venue that has agreed in advance

Bouquets up to 40 roses can still go the same day when ordered by 9 pm, which suits a second bouquet for the engagement dinner or for her mother. Fifty can go same day by 7 pm, but a proposal is where a mistake costs most, so give yourself a day of margin.

Fifty: the size people underestimate

Fifty roses fills the arms of the person holding it and leaves no free hand. If the proposal is just the two of you, fifty is usually enough and leaves budget for the venue, the dinner and the ring. 50 roses are ฿5,999 delivered.

One hundred: the number people search for

The 100 roses proposal is common because the number reads as a statement before she touches a petal. A hundred roses is ฿8,999. Ask in chat for the expected dimensions, because the bouquet needs somewhere to stand if she cannot carry it to the lift. Our note on what 100 roses cost in Bangkok covers pricing, and the guide to how many roses to send covers the smaller sizes.

On colour: the Royal Horticultural Society's history of the language of flowers records that in the Victorian code a red rose meant love, which is why it became the proposal default. If red is not her colour, white-pink or pink carries the same weight; our piece on red versus pink roses helps you choose.

Two hundred and five hundred: when more stops being a bouquet

At 200 roses you are arranging a display. It needs two people to carry it and a floor or table to rest on. 200 roses are ฿16,999 with 48 hours' notice. Five hundred is ฿34,999 with 48 to 72 hours, and only makes sense where the venue has agreed to receive it and someone can show the driver where it goes.

Lead times: why the big counts need 24 to 72 hours

Large rose counts need notice because the flowers must be sourced, conditioned and made up by hand, then driven across Bangkok in the heat. Cut corners at any step and you get open heads that are past their best when she sees them. This is the timeline to plan proposal flowers around.

When What to do
72 hours before Choose the venue, confirm access, set the date. Message us now if you want 500 roses.
48 hours before Final order for 200 roses. Confirm the receiving name and place at the venue.
24 hours before Final order for 70 and 100 roses. Agree the delivery window in chat.
Morning of Check the venue knows when the flowers arrive. Confirm the ring and the card.
One hour before Message the venue contact. Ask whether the flowers are in a cool room and ready.

No exact arrival clock time is promised on any order, so ask for a window that suits the venue, such as the afternoon. The delivery page has the details.

Heat is the quiet risk

Bangkok afternoons are hard on cut roses. A bouquet that sits in a hot car, a lobby with the door propped open or an unshaded rooftop for two hours will look tired. Purdue's floral design instructor puts roses at roughly five to seven days of freshness with proper care, which is ample for a proposal if they stay cool and in water.

If the flowers arrive hours early, ask the venue for a cool room. NC State Extension says to condition flowers in a cool, dark place for one to two hours before arranging, and the same logic applies before the reveal. Our guide to keeping roses fresh in Bangkok heat goes further.

Hotel rooms, rooftops and condos: access rules in Bangkok

Access is where most proposal plans fail. The flowers are ready, the driver is outside, and nobody at the door has been told.

Hotel rooms

Hotels usually want deliveries to go through reception, the concierge or the bell desk rather than straight to a room. The hotel holds the flowers and a staff member brings them up, or calls you. That is why the name on the order matters, and why the room number should only be given if the hotel asks.

Ask the hotel before you order:

  • Can the concierge receive flowers for a guest, and at what hours?
  • Is there a cool room where they can be held?
  • If the room is not ready until the afternoon, can they hold the flowers until check-in?
  • Is there a charge for outside flowers, decoration or cleaning petals?

Some hotels run proposal packages with their own supplier; our look at how hotel flower contracts work explains why.

Rooftops

A rooftop is photogenic and fragile. Wind takes loose petals and light arrangements, and a sudden shower can undo a plan in minutes in the rainy months. Ask whether there is covered space, whether private bookings are allowed and who the contact is on the day. Rooftops in Sathorn, Silom and along the river are often full at sunset, so book the venue first and the flowers second.

Condos

Condo buildings have a juristic office, a front desk and a visitor rule. Couriers are usually asked to leave deliveries at reception or the parcel room, and some buildings need the resident to approve the drop. If you are proposing at your own condo, put the building name and your unit on the order and tell the front desk to expect an unusually large bouquet. Our guide to sending flowers to a Bangkok condo lists what to confirm.

For a very large arrangement, ask whether it fits in the lift upright and whether the service lift is available. A 200-rose display will not travel well on its side.

Petals, candles and what venue managers actually allow

Petals and candles are what most people picture in a proposal setup at a Bangkok hotel. They are also what venues are most likely to refuse.

Petals

Loose petals are the easiest part of a set-up to organise and the hardest to clear. Housekeeping may ask for a cleaning fee or limit petals to the bed and floor. Wet petals stain fabric, and petals in a bathtub can block a drain. For proposal rose petals, ask the hotel whether they are allowed, whether there is a charge, where they must not go (carpet, bathroom, balcony) and who clears them.

Candles

Open flames are the most common restriction. Smoke alarms, fire rules and furnishings all work against real candles in hotel rooms, and many venues refuse them or allow them only with staff present. Do not light candles in a hotel room without asking, and do not assume a rooftop allows them in wind.

LED candles give the light with no flame. Or the scented-candle sets on our candles gifts page can sit unlit as a gift she takes home with the flowers. Ask in chat what comes with each set.

Item Ask the venue Safer alternative
Rose petals Allowed? Charge? Where? Petals on a tray, bouquet in her hands
Lit candles Allowed? Staff present? LED candles, or an unlit scented candle as a gift
Outside flowers Allowed? Storage? Delivery to concierge under your name
Balloons or banners Allowed? Fixings? Freestanding arrangement, no wall fixings
Photographer Allowed? Fee? A friend with a phone, briefed in advance

If there is a pet at home, one more rule applies. The ASPCA lists the rose as non-toxic to dogs, cats and horses, but lilies are another matter for cats: the ASPCA's guide to toxic lilies warns that pollen and even vase water can seriously harm them. Keep lilies out of any arrangement in a home with a cat.

Keeping it secret: delivery addressed to you, not to her

Proposal flowers are most often given away by a call or message to her from the florist, the hotel or the driver. The fix is that every name and phone number on the order is yours, or your accomplice's.

  • Order in your name. The recipient is you, or the friend meeting the driver. Her name is not needed.
  • Give a contact who answers. If the driver calls, it should be your phone or a friend's.
  • Use the venue's booking name. The concierge can hold flowers under it. Ask staff to say nothing if she walks past.
  • Brief one accomplice. One friend, with the plan, the time and a number. Not five.
  • Keep chats and receipts private. If you share a phone or delivery app, order from a device she does not use.

If she normally collects parcels at your condo, tell the front desk not to call her about this one.

What to write on the card

Cards are short and the best are specific. Adapt these:

  • "For the woman who read the whole menu aloud on our first dinner. Will you marry me?"
  • "I asked your sister for her view. She said you would say yes. I am asking anyway."
  • "Turn around."
  • "Seven years of Saturdays. I would like the rest of them."

If the question will be asked aloud, the card can be a clue instead.

The ring, the bouquet and who holds what

On the day, logistics are about hands. You need one for the ring, two for the bouquet and one for the phone. You cannot do all of that alone.

A workable split:

  • You hold the ring, in your pocket or its box, until the moment.
  • A friend or the venue contact holds the bouquet until you walk in, then hands it over.
  • A second friend holds the phone, standing back from the line of sight.
  • Nobody waits near the entrance, where she might see them first.

The Full Stop set with a jewellery box and the 50 red roses with a jewellery box are two gift sets that pair flowers with a jewellery box. Check each page for what the box is and ask in chat whether it suits your ring. If the ring already has its own box, a set like this can be a separate gift for the evening, opened afterwards.

When not to

Flowers are the wrong move in a few situations.

  • She dislikes surprises. Ask her sister or closest friend first.
  • She is allergic to flowers or fragrance. A hundred roses in a small room is a lot of scent.
  • You do not know what the answer is. A large order will not change it; have the conversation first.
  • It would put her on the spot in front of family, colleagues or strangers, and you are not certain she wants that.

The Cleveland Clinic lists mutual respect for boundaries among the signs of a healthy relationship. A proposal that honours her preferences starts the marriage that way.

After the yes: engagement party and family visits

Taking the flowers home

Ask the hotel for a bag or box and get the flowers into water quickly. The RHS conditioning guidance says to strip leaves below the waterline and re-cut the stems, which keeps the bouquet going for the week of photos that follows. A hundred roses needs two or three tall vases, so borrow them in advance.

The engagement party

Thai engagement customs have shifted. The Thailand Foundation's wedding guide explains that engagement and wedding ceremonies are now commonly held on the same day, and that traditionally the groom's procession carries the sinsod and an engagement ring to the bride's home. If your families follow a traditional plan, the proposal is the private part and the formal exchange happens with relatives later.

For a separate celebration, The Knot advises holding an engagement party within about three months, usually hosted by close friends or family, and notes that everyone invited should ultimately be invited to the wedding. Keep the list short for that reason.

Engagement flowers for the party scale differently from the proposal. A few arrangements on tables are enough, and a 20 to 40 rose bouquet is plenty. The build-your-own tool lets you match colours to the venue.

Visiting her family

The Cultural Atlas on Thai etiquette says a gift for a Thai hostess is not necessary but appreciated, naming fruit, flowers, liquor and cakes, and asks visitors to remove shoes and avoid stepping on the threshold. The Emily Post Institute suggests bringing a bouquet in a vase or jar where possible, so the host is not hunting for one.

Worked plans at three budgets, with price tokens

These are invented examples to show how the pieces fit. Adjust for your date, venue and person.

Plan one: dinner at home

Say Pete and Mai live in a one-bedroom condo in Ari, and he plans to propose after dinner on Saturday.

  • Flowers: 50 red roses at ฿5,999, ordered Thursday.
  • Delivery: to the juristic office in Pete's name, held in the parcel room until he collects at 5 pm.
  • Card: "I would like to do this every Saturday."
  • Backup: a second, smaller bouquet ordered for the next morning, with breakfast as plan B.

Plan two: the hotel suite

Say Arthit books a Sukhumvit suite for Nok's birthday weekend and plans to propose before dinner.

  • Flowers: 100 red roses at ฿8,999, ordered Wednesday for Friday.
  • Delivery: to the concierge under Arthit's name, in the afternoon window, with the hotel holding them in a cool room until check-in.
  • Extras: a scented candle left unlit as a take-home gift, and petals on a tray, cleared with the hotel.
  • Who holds what: a friend brings the flowers to the room before they arrive, then leaves.
  • Backup: if the suite is not ready, the roses stay at the bell desk and the proposal moves to the lobby lounge.

Plan three: the staged reveal

Say Dao and Ploy plan a proposal on a covered terrace by the river, with family present.

  • Flowers: 200 red roses at ฿16,999, ordered five days ahead, plus a bouquet of 50 for her to carry.
  • Delivery: to the venue's events manager, with a named contact and a loading time agreed in writing.
  • Who holds what: the venue team builds the display; Dao's brother holds the ring box.
  • Backup: a rain plan agreed with the venue, such as a covered corner or an indoor room.

The backup plan

Write it down and share it with your accomplice.

  • Late delivery: ask for a window, not a time, and plan the proposal an hour after it opens. Friday evening traffic on Sukhumvit and Rama IV is heavy, so an afternoon window beats a 7 pm one. Keep the chat thread with us open.
  • Rain: book a covered alternative, even a corner of the lobby lounge, and keep the bouquet wrapped until the last moment.
  • The venue cannot receive them: tell us at once so we can agree a new handover point in chat.
  • The evening shifts: roses kept cool and in water give you a few hours' margin; the cool room matters more than the clock.
  • She says not yet: the flowers are hers either way, a gift and not a bargain. Put them in water and have the conversation another day.

Frequently asked questions

How many roses should I give for a proposal?

Fifty is a large bouquet and plenty for a private moment. A hundred is the traditional statement. Two hundred is a display that needs floor space and two people to carry it. Match the number to the room, your budget and her personality rather than a symbolic figure. If you are unsure, send the venue's dimensions in chat and ask what fits. For the smaller gestures before and after the question, see flowers to say I love you.

How far in advance should I order proposal flowers?

For 70 or 100 roses, order at least 24 hours ahead; for 200, 48 hours; for 500, 48 to 72 hours. Fifty roses can go the same day if ordered by 7 pm Bangkok time, but a day of margin protects you from venue surprises. Confirm the delivery window in chat, because no exact arrival time is promised.

Can I send engagement flowers to a hotel without her knowing?

Yes, if you control the booking name and phone number. Order in your own name, send the flowers to the concierge or events team and brief a single friend. Ask the hotel whether outside flowers are allowed, whether they have a cool room and whether they will hold them until check-in. Keep her name off the order.

Are rose petals and candles allowed in a hotel room?

It depends on the hotel. Many restrict open flames because of smoke alarms and furnishings, and some charge a cleaning fee for loose petals. Ask in advance and get the answer in writing. LED candles and petals on a tray are safer alternatives that give a similar look with fewer rules to break.

What if the proposal flowers arrive early or late?

Early is easier: ask the venue to keep them in water in a cool room until you need them. For late arrivals, plan the proposal to start an hour after the delivery window opens and keep the chat with us open. You can reach us at any hour through the contact page.

Should I give her the ring and the flowers at the same time?

That is a matter of taste. Most people hand over the bouquet first or place it nearby, then bring out the ring, which keeps the moment simple. If you prefer a combined gift, a set with a jewellery box is one option; check the product page and confirm in chat. Delivery conditions are on the delivery terms page.
