Christmas Party Flowers in Bangkok: Red, White and a Tropical Twist
Christmas party flowers for Bangkok homes, offices and hotel brunches: palette, host gift versus room flowers, New Year's Eve and when to order in December.

December in Bangkok has the tinsel, the carols in the malls and the office lunch, but it does not have a winter. There is no fir, no holly and no frost on the window, so the usual northern-hemisphere Christmas table has to be rebuilt from what works in a warm city. This guide to Christmas party flowers covers the palette that reads as festive here, what to send to a home party, an office lunch or a hotel brunch, how a host gift differs from flowers for the room, New Year's Eve, and how to order before the December rush.
The short version: red roses and white-pink roses carry the season on their own, dark green and a few orchids give it a Bangkok accent, and the order goes in early. The unglamorous part matters too: clean vases and cool storage decide whether the flowers still look good at ten at night.
Christmas party flowers in a city with no winter
Christmas Day is an ordinary working day for most Bangkok offices, so the party tends to happen on the weekend before or at a long lunch. What the city has instead of a holiday is a very public festive season. One roundup of a past Bangkok season on The Nation Thailand names the Christmas event at Siam Paragon, a giant Thai-style tree at King Power Mahanakhon and CentralWorld's 40-metre tree. The page does not state its year, so treat it as how the city decorates rather than this year's programme.
Guests arrive having walked past trees the height of a building, so holiday flowers in Thailand do a different job from the ones at a snowed-in dinner. They do not need to say "Christmas" in capital letters. They need to make a condo living room, a conference table or a hotel brunch feel like an occasion, and to survive the heat while doing it.
The palette: red roses, white-pink, deep greens and orchids
In a cold country, festive flower arrangements are evergreen boughs, amaryllis and berries. In Bangkok the same job is done by colour and shape. A tight head of red roses reads as Christmas to almost everyone, white-pink roses stand in for snow, a stem of phalaenopsis says where you are, and dense dark foliage gives the deep green without a single pine needle. December falls in the cool season, which is the best time of year for Thai-grown roses; our guide to seasonal flowers in Thailand explains why.
Red: the anchor
Red roses are the shortest route to a festive table. For Christmas party flowers that are the main decoration, build around 20 red roses, priced at ฿3,299, or 30 red roses at ฿3,999 for a larger room or a long table. Split the bunch into two or three low vases rather than one tall one: guests across a table can see each other, and the red is spread through the room instead of piled in one corner.
White-pink: the softer partner
White-pink roses are the answer when a full red table feels heavy, or when the dress code at an office or hotel event is understated. Pair them with red at roughly one to three and the red stops looking like Valentine's Day and starts looking like a festive table. For a single colour with no discussion, the white-pink rose range sits comfortably beside dark green tablecloths and gold candles. If you want one designed piece in that register rather than loose stems, The White Room from the Signature Collection is the pale option; check the page for what is in it this season.
Green and orchids: the Bangkok accent
Add one or two stems from the orchids range to any of the above and the arrangement stops looking imported. The RHS growing guide for moth orchids calls phalaenopsis the most popular indoor orchid, with long-lasting flowers that can bloom at any time of year, and says they want bright light but not direct summer sun. That is useful if you are buying a potted phalaenopsis as a host gift: it can flower for weeks in a bright room away from a sunny window, long after the party.
| Look | Flowers | Works best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic red | Red roses in two or three low vases | Home party, long dinner table | Red on a red tablecloth disappears; add white or green |
| Red and white | Red roses with white-pink roses and dark foliage | Office lunch, hotel brunch | Keep the ratio uneven so it looks designed |
| White and green | White-pink roses, orchids, foliage | Understated or formal rooms | Can look cold under white LED light without a candle |
| Tropical festive | Red roses with one orchid stem per vase | Expat dinners, rooftop evenings | Orchid stems are delicate; keep them out of the way of sleeves |
| Signature | The Garnet as the centrepiece | Hosts who want one strong piece | Check the page for current contents and price |
Home parties, office parties and hotel brunches
The same Christmas party flowers behave differently depending on where the party is. A home is forgiving; a tower is not; a hotel brunch has a team that will move your arrangement without telling you. For a seated dinner in a private room, the sightline and scent rules in dinner party flowers apply.
The home party in a Bangkok condo
At home, you control the space and the vases, but not the building. Most condos route deliveries through the juristic office or the lobby desk, and Christmas party flowers left there on the wrong afternoon will wait in a warm lobby. Tell the person receiving it where it should go, and give a mobile number that will be answered. Our guide to sending flowers to a Bangkok condo covers the lobby routine.
Say you are hosting twelve friends in Ari on the Saturday before Christmas, at a long table. You want a centrepiece, two small side arrangements and a little height in a corner. Order 30 red roses at ฿3,999 for the morning of the party: twenty in a long, low centrepiece and two vases of five. Keep two orchid stems for a narrow bottle on the sideboard.
The office party in a tower
SHRM reports that three in four companies host a December party, and its advice is about keeping the event short and well run: about three hours, with rides home arranged. Flowers need no management on the night.
Bangkok office parties are rarely held in the office. They tend to be lunches in a hotel ballroom, a private room at a restaurant, or a rooftop, so there are two decisions: who will be at the venue to receive the flowers, and whether the venue allows outside flowers at all. Ask before you order. For table, reception and desk arrangements, see our guide to office party flowers in Bangkok.
Say you manage the office for a team of 25 in Sathorn, with a year-end lunch in a restaurant's private room on the 23rd. Confirm with the restaurant that it will take a delivery on the morning of the 23rd and who will sign for it, then order 20 red roses at ฿3,299 for the main table, sent to the restaurant, and a bunch of 10 white-pink roses at ฿2,399 for your own reception desk on the 22nd, so the office looks the part when people leave for lunch. Never have the table flowers held overnight in a warm tower lobby.
The hotel brunch
Bangkok hotel brunches at Christmas and New Year come with the hotel's own arrangements, so flowers from outside are a gift, not a decoration. If you host a private table, ask the banquet team whether they accept deliveries, where they keep them, and when your table is set. If you are a guest, a small hand-tied bouquet or an orchid for the host, handed over at the door or sent ahead to their home, is the better move.
Keep flowers away from the food. A University of Texas Medical Branch article on a University of West Georgia survey reports that close to 30% of people find scented products on others irritating. It is about perfumes and air fresheners rather than roses, but the lesson carries: lower-scent flowers go on tables where people eat, and anything fragrant goes by the door.
Flowers as the host gift versus flowers for the room
These are not the same purchase. A host gift is a thank-you that the host receives and then has to deal with. Flowers for the room are part of the party's design and are chosen with a table in mind.
The host gift
The Cultural Atlas's page on Thai etiquette says that bringing a gift to a Thai hostess is not necessary but is appreciated, and names fruit, flowers, liquor and cakes as appropriate. The Emily Post Institute calls a hosting gift a small token of appreciation, says a bouquet is a classic, best brought already in a vase, and adds that a gift should always be within your means. A small bouquet is enough.
The practical problem is that the host is busy. Christmas party flowers handed over as a hand-tied bunch need trimming and a vase, and the host may not have a free hand at the door. Kinder options are a bouquet sent the day before, a potted orchid that needs nothing but a bright spot, or a hamper with flowers, where the bouquet goes straight into water and the hamper waits on a shelf until tomorrow.
Flowers for the room
Room flowers are chosen for the table, the lighting and the food. Place them where nobody has to see around them: low at the dining table for eye contact, higher on the sideboard to read from across the room. For a warm Bangkok evening:
- Keep flowers out of direct sun and away from the air-conditioning vent, where a constant draught can dry the petals.
- Put fragrant stems by the door and unscented ones on the table.
- Keep arrangements away from candles.
- Leave a clear route for serving dishes. Arrangements on a buffet line get moved, and moved flowers get knocked.
Pets, allergies and when not to bring flowers
Flowers are the wrong gift in several situations, and it is better to know them before the party.
If the host has a cat, do not bring lilies. ASPCA Poison Control says Lilium lilies and daylilies can cause severe kidney injury in cats, including from drinking vase water or grooming pollen off their coats. If you are not sure, choose roses or orchids and ask.
If the host is holding a morning ceremony with monks, ask what the household would like; a plant or a fruit basket is usually easier than a bouquet. If a guest has hay fever or fragrance sensitivity, a hamper is safer than scented flowers. And if you cannot get a bouquet there in good condition, bring a bottle or a cake rather than a tired bunch.
Card wording that is specific
Three to five lines are enough, and each should say something real:
- "Thank you for having us on the 24th. The orchid likes a bright window, not a sunny one."
- "To the best table in Ari. The red ones are for the sideboard."
- "From all of us on the fourth floor. Have a quiet few days off."
- "For the brunch host who never sat down. These are for your own table at home."
New Year's Eve: countdown parties and the first bouquet of the year
New Year's Eve in Bangkok is a handful of public countdowns and a much larger number of private ones. (This is the 31 December countdown; the Thai New Year is Songkran in April, and our Songkran flower delivery guide covers that week's closures.) The TAT Newsroom's calendar for Countdown 2026 lists the Amazing Thailand Countdown at ICONSIAM from 27 to 31 December 2025, with CentralWorld, One Bangkok and Sukhumvit countdowns on 31 December that year. That is last year's calendar, but the pattern repeats: crowds at the river and on Ratchaprasong, and a night when reaching anywhere takes longer than the map says.
New Year's Eve party flowers
For New Year's Eve flowers in Bangkok, think low and wide if the party is on a rooftop or a condo balcony. Wind on a high floor knocks over a tall vase, and a standing party wants to see across the table. White-pink roses and a few orchid stems work well under fairy lights, and a red accent carries into the early hours. Candles belong in glass, away from stems.
The countdown itself suits something small: one red rose per guest at the door, or one in each glass of water on the table. If you want it, build your own bouquet with the number of stems you need and have it sent to the host the day before.
The first bouquet of the year
Flowers for the new year do not have to be for the party. A bouquet sent on 2 January arrives when the decorations have gone and the house is quiet. 1 January is a public holiday, so building offices and some condo desks run on a holiday rota; a bouquet sent then may wait.
Say you stayed with a friend in Phra Khanong over Christmas. Back home, send them 10 red roses at ฿2,399 with a card: "Thank you for the spare room and the Christmas dinner. The year starts better because of it."
Delivery around the December rush: ordering early
Every florist in Bangkok is busy in December, and in the last week before Christmas the whole city wants the same thing on the same afternoons. Christmas bouquet delivery in Bangkok runs on the usual lead times, so order inside them with room to spare. FlowerRova delivers same day for bouquets up to 40 roses ordered by 9 pm Bangkok time, and for 50 roses by 7 pm. For 70 and 100 roses the notice is 24 hours, for 200 roses 48 hours, and for 500 roses 48 to 72 hours. We do not promise an exact arrival time, so plan around "in the afternoon" rather than a minute. The delivery page sets this out, and the Christmas and New Year occasions page shows what is on offer for the season.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Three weeks out | Decide the venue, the guest count and whether outside flowers are allowed |
| Two weeks out | Choose the palette and sizes; for 70 roses or more, message early |
| One week out | Confirm the address, the receiver's name and a phone number that will be answered |
| Three days out | For 200 or 500 roses, order now; the notice is 48 hours or more |
| The day before | Order anything up to 50 roses for next-morning delivery; name who will sign for it |
| The day of | Up to 40 roses ordered by 9 pm still go same day, but order in the morning for an evening party; condition, arrange and keep cool |
Order by chat on LINE or WhatsApp and give the date, the building and floor, the receiver's name and phone, the size you want and the card text in one message. A condo needs the unit and the juristic office; a hotel needs a banquet contact; an office needs a floor and a reception name. "Deep red, nothing orange" is easier to follow than "festive".
Pairing with cake, chocolate and hampers
Flowers rarely arrive alone at a Christmas party. Pair the thing that lasts a week with the thing that disappears at the table. Every gift on FlowerRova comes with flowers, so these are sets rather than separate orders.
A chocolate box with roses is the neat host gift: small, long-keeping, no second vase needed. If any guest has a food allergy, say so in the order message. The FDA lists nine major food allergens, including milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soy, and any of them can turn up in a chocolate, so read the label.
A cake with roses suits a smaller gathering where someone will cut it, and it is the one item here that needs a cold chain. The FDA's holiday food-safety guidance says bacteria multiply quickly in moist desserts with dairy, and that cakes with whipped-cream or cream-cheese frosting must be kept refrigerated. If the party starts at seven, put the cake in the fridge on arrival and bring it out when it is time to cut. The cake and flowers sets list current prices.
Hampers suit the host who is about to travel: the bouquet is enjoyed this week and the hamper keeps for the trip back. In an office, one hamper at reception can be the team gift while desk flowers handle the personal thank-yous.
Keeping flowers fresh through a long warm evening
A long evening in a warm room is the hardest thing you will ask Christmas party flowers to do, and the preparation starts before the party.
NC State Extension advises conditioning flowers in a cool, dark place for one to two hours before arranging, and says commercial floral preservative works better than home remedies. It adds that a penny in the vase no longer helps, because pennies are now mostly zinc. Use the sachet that comes with the bouquet. The Royal Horticultural Society's conditioning advice is to strip leaves below the waterline so they do not rot and to re-cut the stems with a sharp knife.
The clean vase
This is the step people skip, and for table flowers meant to see out the week between Christmas and New Year it matters most: Cornell researchers found vase-water bacteria becoming more varied over seven days, so wash the vase in hot soapy water before the party, change the water as soon as it clouds and follow the routine in how to clean a flower vase.
On the night
Purdue's floral design instructor says roses stay fresh for five to seven days and advises topping up the water daily and changing it with floral food every two to three days. In Bangkok's heat, treat that as the ceiling. Our guide to keeping roses fresh in Bangkok heat goes through the details. For the evening itself:
- Arrange in the morning, in clean vases, with fresh water and preservative.
- Keep the flowers in the coolest room until an hour before guests arrive.
- Top up the water before the guests leave, not after.
- The next morning, re-cut the stems, change the water and move the vase somewhere cool.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best flowers for a Christmas party in Bangkok?
Red roses are the safest choice, with white-pink roses as a softer partner and a stem or two of orchid for a tropical accent. Dark green foliage replaces pine. For a long table, split 20 or 30 roses across two or three low vases so guests can see over them.
How far ahead should I order Christmas flowers in Bangkok?
Order a week ahead for anything that matters. Same-day delivery works for up to 40 roses ordered by 9 pm and 50 roses by 7 pm, but 70 and 100 roses need 24 hours, 200 roses 48 hours and 500 roses 48 to 72 hours. December traffic makes last-minute plans risky.
What should I bring to a Christmas party host in Thailand?
A gift is not required but is appreciated, according to the Cultural Atlas. Fruit, flowers, a cake or a bottle all work. A small bouquet, a potted orchid or a hamper that needs no vase is kindest. If the host has a cat, avoid lilies.
Can I send flowers to a hotel brunch or an office party?
Yes, but ask the venue first. Hotels often have a banquet team that decides whether outside deliveries are accepted and where flowers are kept. Offices usually route them through reception. Give the receiver's name and a phone number that will be answered, and aim for the morning of the event rather than an overnight hold.
How do I stop roses wilting at a warm December party?
Treat Christmas party flowers like any roses in Bangkok heat: use a clean vase, strip leaves below the waterline, re-cut the stems and add the floral preservative. Keep the arrangement out of the sun and the air-conditioning draught, set it out an hour before guests arrive, and top up the water before they leave.
Are there flowers to avoid at a Christmas party?
Avoid lilies where there is a cat, since they are toxic to cats. Avoid strongly scented flowers next to the buffet, and ask the host about hay fever or fragrance sensitivity. If you are unsure, a hamper or an orchid is safer. Ask us on LINE or WhatsApp if you want help choosing.
