What Is a Florist's Choice Bouquet, and Should You Order One?

What you control in a florist’s-choice order, how to set exclusions and a budget, and when a defined product is the better fit.

In a florist's-choice order, you give the florist room to choose the flowers within an agreed brief. The useful question is how much choice you want to delegate. It is not an automatic promise of the best stems, extra value or a particular vase life.

What you should still specify

Give the occasion, recipient, budget, colour direction and delivery details. Add the intended display space and anything that must be avoided. A small desk, a dinner table and a lobby need different proportions even when the budget is the same.

Keep essential exclusions separate from preferences. “Prefer pink” leaves room for a discussion; “no lilies” is a clear exclusion that must be acknowledged. If there is a sensitivity or venue restriction, explain the requirement without assuming every flower in a colour palette is suitable.

What the florist may choose

Ask whether the choice covers flower varieties, colours, wrapping, vessel or all of those. Agree whether the budget is the bouquet price or the final amount including delivery and extras. If a vase is needed, include that before the composition is planned.

The florist can propose available flowers that fit the brief. That flexibility does not prove that a fixed catalogue design would use poor flowers or that another seller would substitute without permission.

When choice can be useful

Consider it when you care about the overall mood more than an exact variety, or when you would like the florist to suggest an available combination. Send a few references and explain what you like about them rather than assuming the seller can infer the important detail.

For a surprise, state what the recipient likes and what they would find difficult to receive. A dramatic arrangement may be less useful than a manageable bouquet for someone travelling home after work.

When to choose a defined product

If the exact number or flower is the message, choose a stated product and confirm its details. One hundred roses is a different brief from “a large romantic bouquet”. If an event palette must match other materials, settle the colour and substitution plan in advance.

If someone else must approve the finished design, ask whether that workflow is possible before ordering. A photo requirement needs time and an agreed contact.
