What Is a Florist's Choice Bouquet, and Should You Order One?
You give up control over the flowers and gain the best stems in the studio that morning. When that trade is worth making, and when it is not.
"Florist's choice" means you specify the occasion, the colour mood and the budget, and the florist selects the actual flowers on the day. It is the most-ordered option at most good studios and the least understood by customers.
Why it usually produces a better bouquet
Cut flowers are an agricultural product with a daily-changing market. On any given morning at Pak Khlong Talat, some buckets are exceptional and some are ordinary, and which is which changes overnight.
When you order a specific bouquet from a photograph, the florist has to build that bouquet whether or not those particular stems are good today. If the ranunculus is tired, they either use tired ranunculus or substitute quietly.
Florist's choice removes that constraint. We buy what is genuinely best that morning and build around it. The same budget buys better flowers because the money follows the quality instead of a picture.
What you actually control
You are not handing over a blank cheque. A good brief covers:
- Budget — the real constraint
- Occasion — birthday, apology, congratulations, sympathy
- Colour direction — "warm", "soft and pale", "no red", "nothing yellow"
- Anything to avoid — allergies, scent sensitivity, a flower they dislike
- Where it is going — a small desk needs a different build from a hotel lobby
That is enough to make a bouquet that lands. What you give up is naming the specific varieties.
When florist's choice is the right call
When you trust the studio. This is the whole basis of it. If you have not used them before and cannot see real photographs of past work, buy a defined product first.
When the recipient is not fussy about specifics. Most people are delighted by beautiful flowers and have no view on whether the filler was astilbe or waxflower.
When you want maximum quality per baht. This is consistently where the value is.
When it is seasonal. In February or on 12 August, florist's choice means you get something genuinely good rather than an overpriced version of a picture.
When to order a defined bouquet instead
When the flower itself is the message. A hundred red roses is a specific statement and there is no substituting it. Order the defined SKU.
When it must match something — a colour scheme, a brand, a wedding palette.
When the recipient has a strong preference. If she loves peonies and hates chrysanthemums, say so, or order a bouquet built on peonies.
When you are sending a photograph in advance. If someone needs to approve the design first, choice defeats the point.
