Where to Buy Roses in Bangkok: Shop, Studio or Online

Three realistic ways to buy roses in Bangkok, each right for something different. The mistake is not choosing wrongly — it is not knowing what you gave up.

The neighbourhood flower shop

Every Bangkok neighbourhood has one, usually near a market or a temple, often family-run for decades.

What it costs: ฿400–฿900 for a modest wrapped bunch. Cheaper than a studio, more than buying stems yourself.

What you get: immediacy. You walk in, you point, you leave with flowers. For something you need in the next hour, nothing beats it.

What you give up: consistency and traceability. Most neighbourhood shops buy on the day from whoever is selling — so quality swings week to week, and nobody can tell you when the stems were cut or where they were grown. Some days you will do extremely well. Some days you will buy roses that were cut five days ago, and you will not know until day three.

Best for: flowers today, for yourself or somewhere you are walking to.

The florist studio

A smaller number of studios in Bangkok work to order rather than from a shelf: composed bouquets, named sourcing, delivery with a photograph.

What it costs: ฿1,200–฿4,000 for a proper hand-tied bouquet, depending on stem count and grade.

What you get: the work between the farm and the door. Grading, conditioning, hand-tying, a wrap that survives a motorcycle, a courier who knows how condo receptions work, and someone accountable if it fails.

You are also usually buying better stems. A studio with standing arrangements at named farms is buying flowers cut to its own order, not flowers cut for somebody else and resold. That is the single biggest determinant of how long they last. More on how that works.

What you give up: the lowest possible price, and seeing it before it is made.

Best for: anything you are sending to someone else, and anything that matters.

Online, from a large delivery platform

The aggregators and large delivery brands are the most visible option and the most variable.

What it costs: ฿800–฿3,000, often with delivery added at checkout.

What you get: convenience, broad coverage, and a photograph on a website.

What you give up: frequently, the relationship between the photograph and the bouquet. Many platforms are order-routers — they take your money and pass the job to whichever local shop is nearest the address. That shop has never seen the photograph you chose. This is why "it looked nothing like the picture" is the most common complaint in this category.

It is not universal, and some platforms are genuinely good. The test is whether anyone will tell you who is actually making the bouquet.

Best for: delivery to a city you do not know, where coverage matters more than composition.

How to choose

Ask the three questions that cut through all of it:

1. How many stems, and how long are they? A price without a stem count is not a price.
2. Where were these grown, and when were they cut? Anyone buying properly can answer instantly. Anyone who cannot is buying on the day.
3. Who is actually making it? Particularly online.

The honest summary

Sending to someone else — a studio, essentially always. The saving elsewhere evaporates the moment something goes wrong at a condo reception and there is nobody accountable.

Flowers for your own table, today — the neighbourhood shop. It is cheaper, it is immediate, and for your own home the variability matters far less.

Something that has to be right — an apology, a funeral, a first impression, an anniversary that took a decade to arrive — pay for the studio and ask the three questions first.
